Max Schmeling
Objective
I want to write code and work with other smart people who love to write code, I want to be challenged, and I want to learn new things every day.
Skills
I have years of experience in web development (Legacy ASP, ASP.Net WebForms, ASP.Net MVC 1 and 2, Silverlight, Ruby on Rails, and static HTML) and also in desktop application development (VB6, Windows Forms, WPF, and a little Java). My focus has been primarily on the Microsoft stack, but I love code no matter what platform it is on. I have some experience with Java, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Haskell, and many others. I have worked with HTML5, CSS3, CSS2, XSLT, AJAX, and many more TLAs. I am extremely familiar with Microsoft Visual Studio 2003-2010. My operating system of choice is Windows 7, but I'm very familiar with every version from Windows 2000 on (both Desktop and Server editions) as well as several distributions of Linux. I have experience with scripting in VBScript and PowerShell on Windows, and Bash on Linux.
I have worked extensively with Javascript - and by Javascript, I mean primarily jQuery - as well as CSS to build standards based web sites and applications.
I have spent time working as a team with as many as eight developers on a single project, I've been team lead on more than one team project, and I've also completed multiple projects as a standalone developer working without the support of a team. I much prefer working with a team of smart developers where everyone learns from and helps drive each other, but I am capable of working on my own when needed.
I have experience with Subversion, Mercurial, and Team Foundation Server, as well as multiple issue tracking systems and project management systems such as FogBugz, BitBucket, and MantisBT.
Work History
Leggett and Platt
2007 - Present
When I told one of my professors that I was looking for a software development job in the area, he gave me some cards and then had me come with him to the career fair that was coming up so that he could introduce me to the VP of IT at Leggett and Platt. Shortly after that I was hired to work in the Windows Development team at Leggett. I quickly became a leader on the development team helping to define standards, improve our intranet design, redesign our entire security system, and much more. I was one of three windows developers to be chosen for the Tech Lead role within the department.
Advanced Call Center Technologies
2006 - 2007
I worked on an internal development team that developed applications used by the call floor agents to interface with automated dialers, call recorders, in house scripting systems for verbiage, and databases for data storage and reporting. We also created reporting applications to export detailed reports for clients.
Various Consulting Jobs
I've done multiple consulting jobs which have included web development, windows forms development, wpf developement, simple graphic design, complex requirements analysis, and much more. You can view a selection of this work in my portfolio. My clients include the following:

Currently Attending
I am in my final year of the Computational Mathematics degree program at MSSU.
I have tested out of Programming I, Programming II, Database Management Systems I, and Data Structures. I will be testing out of Database Management Systems II and Information Systems II in the near future. I have completed all of my CIS requirements and only lack Linear Algebra from my Mathemeatics requirements.
NEO A&M
2004 - 2006
When I was sixteen years old, my parents and I decided that high school was not the place for me. They withdrew me from public high school and I began college full time. Although I was still technically a home schooled student, in Oklahoma parents can choose whatever curriculum they desire for their children; in my case, this was NEO. Normally NEO A&M doesn't allow full time concurrent students, but the dean of admissions went to bat for me with the board, and they made an exception. For two years I attended NEO A&M full time with a focus on Computer Information Science.
